In their own words...

The Jackson family photoA lot has changed since we moved in to our home in 2002. When we first move in, Austin was 6, Brandon was 3, and Liam had not yet celebrated his first birth-day. There is a lot more to our home than cement and lumber, this experience built in us a hope for a brighter future. Our home has provided stability for us. We had moved several times trying to find a place that would accommodate the size of our family and our financial circumstances. Owning a home was an answer to prayer for our family.
Not long after we moved in I found new hope in other dreams I had long forgotten or just given up on. When the boys were all in school full time I decided to pursue post secondary education. In the spring of 2008, I graduated from Business College with an Honours diploma in Microcomputer Software Support. I am currently on contract with the Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce as an Administrative Office Assistant. I am grateful that we have been blessed with the opportunity to build our home. It’s been almost 7 years since our home was built. Home ownership has played a significant role in the growth of my self-confidence and self worth, and I strive to instill those qualities in my boys.

Brown Family photoI just wanted to say how happy and appreciative I am for the opportunity to own a habitat house. Since living here the boys have been very happy. They have been able to play outside safely and they love their new school. Living in this habitat house has also relieved some stress from me because I know this is a clean and safe house for my children to be in.
I love knowing the fact that my boys can be boys. They have the chance to play and learn and grow.
My neighbours are kind and the people here seem to be respectful of each other which makes this a good environment to bring children to. I love the fact that I have something to call my own and to make it a home for the people I love the most – my boys. I am truly grateful that I was chosen for this once in a life time opportunity.

Thank you again from Amanda Brown and family.

Keller Family photoHaving a Habitat for Humanity home has been a blessing to our family in so many ways. It has truly changed our lives. From the construction of the foundation to the hammering of the very last nail, I witnessed this home being built by so many people with much love and with such great care.
To experience such a magnificent act of human kindness is incredible but how that is magnified when it all surrounds your child!
My daughter, Shayla, has exceptional needs and our home has been therapeutically designed to meet those needs. This makes it so much easier to care for her at home and that means the world to me.
I must also mention that in September 2008, two years after the completion of the build, I became Mrs. Peter Keller. We were married in our back yard!
We have a lot to thank Habitat for Humanity for. People ask us how we met . As I pause in thought and smile, I reply “we met building our home”.
